This tour combines sightseeing in the busy historic State Capital of Adelaide, a
city of over 1.25 million people, with the small country town and very European style of Hahndorf, nestled in the Adelaide Hills. Adelaide was founded in 1836 by Colonel William Light and the city is
bounded by 4 terraces, originally covering an area of 1 square mile, with all streets running North to South and East to west. We explore the heart of the city, traveling past many of the cities historic
buildings before heading out to the country district of the Adelaide Hills, stopping for great panoramic views over the city at Mt Lofty before visiting the town of Hahndorf.

Itinerary
Once you have met your tour
guide at the cruise ship, we leave the port district of Adelaide and head into the city centre, passing the Entertainment Centre, the famous West End Brewery and the west parklands along the way.
Traveling down the tree lined North Terrace, we pass many of the major hotels, including the Intercontinental, Oaks, Mercure and Stamford. North Terrace is also the home of our one and only
Casino housed in the old railway building, next to both our original and the current Parliament Houses.
Passing over King William Street we continue past The Governor's Residence before reaching
the cultural precincts of the city. This area includes many historic buildings, such as the State Library, the Museum and Art Gallery, historic Bonython Hall and many buildings now used by the University
of South Australia.
Our tour continues as we cross over Frome Road, passing the Royal Adelaide Hospital, a famous teaching hospital in several areas of Medicine. Now we are onto the East
Terrace traveling through the East Parklands area where the Botanical Gardens offer a pleasant respite to the bustling city. Then past the National Wine Centre, the Bicentenary Conservatory and the home
of Funi & Wang Wang (2 pandas on loan to Adelaide for 10 years).
Next we head into the shopping and restaurant area of Melbourne Street, in North Adelaide, a very prestigious area with some
of the most expensive homes to be found in the city, then along King William Street passing Rundle Mall, and Victoria Square before leaving the city for the Adelaide Hills. A short 20 minute
journey takes us into the beautiful Adelaide Hills and brings us to the summit of Mt.Lofty, which at 776 metres above sea level offers amazing views out over the city and to the port in the distance,
time here for photos and souvenirs shopping.
Then we head further into the country to the old historic and very Germanic Village of Hahndorf. Settled by the Lutherans in the late 1830's much of
the village maintains its lovely old charm due to its heritage status. You will learn more about the early history of the settlement which was so important in the colonisation of South Australia.
There will be time to purchase a snack with an emphasis on traditional German style food at the many small shops selling a myriad of different specialty items, or just walk the tree lined street admiring
the unique shops and goods being offered for sale before we head back to Port Adelaide and your ship.
