Traveling through the rugged landscape of The Torrens Gorge and on to the picturesque farming lands of the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley gives a true indication why the early settlers were so impressed with the potential of farming around Adelaide. Itinerary

After leaving the terminal at Outer Harbor we will bypass the central City of Adelaide and traveling through the Eastern suburbs we will pass many areas that were settled in the late 1940's and early 1950's by Italian and Greek families who set up market gardens supplying fruit and vegetables to the city of Adelaide. Many of these have now been swallowed up by housing demands but there are still a few remnants left of these market gardens. We then travel into the rugged region known as The Torrens Gorge with its steep terrain and spectacular cliff faces. This is the main water course for the River Torrens which flows through the centre of Adelaide.

At Gumeracha we will stop at The Big Rocking Horse for morning tea of scones, jam and cream together with tea or coffee. The Big Rocking Horse was voted Australia's best big thing last year, the site of an extensive toy factory as well as a small wildlife park makes it an ideal break before continuing the journey. After morning tea we take the scenic drive through the Mt. Crawford State Forest, past Warren Resevoir which is one of the many water holding reservoirs for the City of Adelaide and on to the old village of Williamstown. This town is on the edge of the Barossa Valley region and one of the very early villages settled as a farming community in the mid 19th century. It still has many of the lovely old quaint buildings being used for retail outlets as well as homes for the local people.

We then travel the short distance to the Whispering Wall, an acoustic marvel built around the late 1800's. This was built solely as a water holding facility for the local Barossa Valley towns but on its completion it was discovered to have this amazing acoustic ability. From there we travel through Lyndoch, one of the first villages to be settled around the late 1830's and into the Barossa Valley for our first stop to one of the more than 60 cellar doors in the region.
This stop will depend on availability of the venue on the day but with plenty of options of wineries and with our wide knowledge of the Barossa Valley you will be in for an enjoyable experience being able to taste some premium wines from the region. Our next stop will be at Kies Family Wines, a family owned winery for many years where you will enjoy a light lunch in their restaurant together with a wine tasting. The Kies Family will make you feel right at home and their hospitality is always warm and friendly with excellent wines to enjoy.  After lunch and with an enjoyable day of wine, food & sightseeing it is time to head back to Adelaide and back to Outer Harbor to board your cruise ship.
